Individual Details
John SMITH
( - 1805)
John married 1782 in Wilkes Co NC to Phoebe Mayfield. She may be in the 1820 Census, White Co TN. He was likely one of the older sons.
John received two NC land grants in Tennessee, Book 1, p.261 and p.264, both dated 13 Oct 1783. In 1790 he paid tax on 200 acres and his poll. In 1794 & 1795, he paid tax on 50 acres. His name was mentioned regarding road hands through 1795. After that year he is not mentioned in the records.
His widow Phoebe may have gone to central Tennessee. She may be in the 1820 census of White County with 1m 10-16, 1m 16-26, 1f -10, 1f 16-26, herself over 45. If she had a child under age 10, her husband would have lived until at least 1810, but he was deceased when Edward Smith wrote his will, 1807. She could also have had a granddaughter living with her.
