I have seen no positive proof that the William Smith who died 1842 in Wilson Co, TN, and whose wife was Jane, was the same as the son William named in the Will of Edward Smith.

William Smith, mentioned third in the will of Edward Smith, lived in the Doe River Cove area near Elizabethton and served several times on the road intersecting the Gap Road to Duggar's Ford on th Watauga River. He first appeared on the Washington Co TN records on the tax list of 1793 - in paid poll and tax on 100 acres of land. He appeared for the last time in 1795. He may have moved with others to Middle Tennessee. There are other William Smiths.
