Born in Chester County, he was a son of the late James Blair and Minnie Pendergrass Carter. He was a retired farmer in the Kelton community of Union County and a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and the administrative board. He was married to the late Mrs. Stella Bentley Carter. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Roberta Deal of Lockhart, Mrs. Minnie Taylor of Union and Mrs. Peggy Crocker of Hartsville and sons, William A. Carter of Chester and A. G. Carter of Spartanburg. Services were [to] be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with burial in Haney Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Haney Cemetery Fund in care of Madeline Gallman of Route 4, Union. S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home was in charge.
