Chester, Dec. 14 (Special)---James Roy Carter Sr., 57, widely known farmer of near Fort Lawn, died at 10 o'clock tonight at his home following an illness of several days. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church and had been a resident of the Fort Lawn section for 23 years. Prior to that he had lived in the Baton Rouge section. He was a former trustee of the Fort Lawn schools. Mr. Carter was the son of the late James Blair Carter and Minnie Pendergrass Carter of the Baton Rouge section. Funeral arrangements are incomplete but will be conducted Tuesday from the Bethel Methodist church in Chester county by the Rev. R. L. Lawson, pastor of the First Baptist church of Fort Lawn assisted by the Rev. James B. Linder, pastor of the Fort Lawn Methodist church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his widow the fomrer Eula Roddey of Fort Lawn, three sons, James Roy Carter Jr., and Thomas Carter, both of Fort Lawn and William Carter, a student at Clemson college; one grandson Billy Carter of Fort Lawn, two sisters, Miss Howe Gregory of Baton Rouge and Mrs. W. Sumter Minton of Chester; and three brothers, John Joe and David L. Carter, both of Baton Rouge and Butler W. Carter of Union.
