COUNTY'S OLDEST MAN DEAD NEAR WESTFIELD, IND.
Noah Tomlinson Died Friday at the Age of Ninety-Four
FUNERAL 11 O'CLOCK SUNDAY FORENOON
Continuous Resident of this County for Eighty-one Years
Noah Tomlinson, perhaps the oldest failing in health for several months a short distance north of Westfield Friday aged ninety-four. He had been mailing [failing] in health for several months and his death was largely the result of the infirmities of age. The funeral will be held at Chester, north of Westfield at 11 o'clock, Sunday forenoon.
Mr. Tomlinson was a resident of Washington township continuously after he was thirteen years of age and was reared among the scenes incident to the settlement of a new country, seemingly on the frontier of civilization. In a primitive log cabin in Hendricks county on October 13, 1824, Mr. Tomlinson was born, being the second son of Robert and Lydia Tomlinson, pioneer settler of Indiana. He remained on the old farm for several years. By studying during the winter months in the district school and during the summer months working for his father he grew to be well versed in the daily round of agriculture life. On the 17th of July 1845, he married Miss Abigail Davis. Eight sons and daughters blessed the pleasant home of Mr. and Mrs. Tomlinson.
Immediately after his marriage Mr. Tomlinson settled on forty acres of land which his father gave him. He remained on the farm until 1868 when he moved to the homestead where he spent the remainder of his life. He held with efficient discharge the du-several important township offices and was a prominent member of the Friends church and a liberal giver in behalf of good works and benevolent enterprises. Politically, Mr. Tomlinson was a Republican and always took an active interest in the issues of the day.
He saw the first self binder, the first riding plow and the first corn planter come to Hamilton county and saw this section of the state changed from a dense forest until the land blossomed as a rose. There were but a few men better known in the western part of the county than Noah Tomlinson.
