Obituary of William Victor McCarter

Succumbs to Pneumonia

W.V. McCarter, well-known farmer of this community, succumbed to a short illness on Saturday morning, January 30th. He was aged 54 years, 5 months and three days. Death was due to pneumonia following a brief illness with influenza.

William Victor McCarter was born at Helton, North Carolina, on August 27th, 1882. At the age of twelve he moved with his parents to Belton, Mo. coming to Louisburg in 1897, where he lived until death claimed him.

On September 30th, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Long. To them were born five children; Winford, of Louisburg; Miss Opal, Victor, Jr., and Charles of the home, who with his wife, survive. There is one grandson, Harvey Jo McCarter; four brothers: J.L. McCarter, Kansas City; J.B. McCarter, Crestline, Ohio; Charles McCarter, Mounds, Oklahoma; J.W. McCarter, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and five sisters. Mrs. H.G. McCullough and Mrs. R.L. Hunt of Kansas City; Mrs. A.S. Bryan, Fort Pierce, Fla; Mayme McCarter of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and Mrs. C.J. Windisch of Louisburg.

"Vic," as he was familiarly known among his friends and associates, was one of a family of ten children, the first to pass away. He was a loyal citizen, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by his friends and neighbors, as well as by his loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Episcopal Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev.'s L.E. Daniels and Harry E. Crane. Mrs. H.H. Miller and Mrs. D.P. Carlin sang, accompanied by Miss Maxine Murray at the piano. Burial was at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday. The body laying in state until the arrival Wednesday of the son, Melbourne, from Fort Knox, Ky. Pallbearers were Messrs. Hugh Lee, Ralph Reed, D.W. Thomas, Charles Johnson, Roy Masterson, and H.J. Murray. The body was laid to rest in Louisburg Cemetery after short services at Runyan Funeral Home and beside the grave. The relatives here were J.W. McCarter and Charles McCarter, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. McCarter, Mrs. H.G. McCullough, and Melbourne McCarter.
