Flora Annis "Sis" McCarter

(12 Apr 1881 - 12 Aug 1964)

Excerpt from a letter Connie Robbins McCarter, wife of Charles McCarter, sent Joe McCarter of Boise, Idaho on March 15, 1987

Flora Annis is the one we called "Aunt Sis," born in 1881 and died in 1964. Aunt Sis was a school teacher and married a man by the name of McCullough. He died very young and she never remarried.

At the time I knew her, in the early 50s, she was running a nursery in the poorer part of Kansas City. She was doing it for the church and she lived in the rectory. She said this was the most rewarding work she'd ever done.

Aunt Sis must have been rather well off because when she died she left all of her nieces and nephews $100 and the rest to the church.
