Death
Obituary of Opal McCarter WiseOpal McCarter Wise, age 65 passed away Tuesday, May 18, 1982, at Miami County Hospital in Paola. A lifelong resident of the Louisburg community, Opal was the only daughter of Victor and Ethel Long McCarter.
She was united in marriage to Harvey Wise on October 15, 1938, moving to a farm north of Louisburg which has remained their home for the last 43 years. They became the parents of three children, Vickie Welch and Jim Wise of Louisburg and Robert Ray Wise who died in infancy.
Preceding in death besides a son were her parents; three brothers, Melbourne, William V. and Winford and a grandson Robert Wayne Welch who died in infancy.
Surviving are her husband, Harvy of the home; son, Jim Wise an daughter, Vickie Welch, both of Louisburg; a brother, Charles E. McCarter of Evansville, Ind., seven grandchildren, Becky Gutherie of Archie, Mo., David Welch of Marlin, Texas, Cindy and Loretta Welch, Michelle, Melissa and Stephanie Wise of Louisburg; two great grandchildren, Brandy and Eric Guthrie of Archie, Mo. and a host of ther relatives and friends.
Opal was a member of the First Christian Church of Louisburg.
She devoted her life to her family. She helped operate the family farm, and spent many, many hours attending school and 4-H functions of her children and later her grandchildren. Recently she and Harvey were given special recognition for their support of 4-H work.
Gathering her family around her was her greatest enjoyment. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren and the many other children who called her Grandma. Her time was shared with their hobbies, whether fishing, gardening, crocheting, cooking or studying nature. She helped each develop their special interests.
She was a quiet and simple woman with many friends.
Services were held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, May 21, 1982, at the First Christian Church in Louisburg with Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden" were sung by Pauline Truman, Hazel Billups, Ruth Jester and Ruth Kerr, accompanied by Alice Dellinger. Active casketbearers were Harvey Joe McCarter, Robert McCarter, Bob Grandon, Ronnie Cutshaw, Roger Bollinger and Rick Elliott. Honorary casketbeaers were Dean Larsen, Charles Moews, Gene Boswell, Mert Crayne, George Jackson, Charles Lewis, Glen Norris and F. M. Roser. Interment was in the Louisburg Cemetery under the direction of Runyan Funeral Homes.
