In 1880 Census, Page 23, Dwelling 160, she is living in Fargo, Dakota Territory. Family history has Emogene and Eugene as first recorded twins born in Dakota Territory.
In 1885 Dakota Territory census the family is living in Cass County.
In 1900 Census she is living on the family farm in Kinyon Township, Cass County.
Sally FLATT Brown records a story that Emogene's brother, Si (Sally's grandfather), living in Canada, asked Emogene to come to Canada and take care of the children and help run the family business as Si's wife, Hannah, was very ill. Emogene went to Canada immediately and when she arrived she discovered that Hannah was just fine and had been all along. It was a hoax and the only way Si thought Emogene would come to Canada as Si had met a man who was working for him and thought this man (George GOULD) would be perfect for Emogene!
It is not understood why she petitioned for US Naturalization since she was born in North Dakota unless the laws at that time required it since she married in Canada. She petitioned for Naturalization on 6 May 1939 with Alice and Rudy Mundt as witnesses and took the Oath of Allegiance on 9 May 1939. The papers indicate she entered the United States at Neche, North Dakota in July 1910 on the Great Northern and C. P. Railroad.
