In 1921 the family moved to Mayville, Traill County but it is believed that sometime between Gardner and Mayville they lived in Shotley, Beltrami County, Minnesota.

Memorial services were held for Pearl Mae Carlson, 91, of Woodbine, on August 19, 1999, at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. The deceased, formerly of Omaha, died August 15 at Westmont Care Center in Logan. Pearl Mae Carlson was born October 10, 1907, to George and Emma Geam [sic] (Flatt) Gould. She attended schools in Minnesota. Then she moved with her family to North Dakota. Pearl was united in marriage to Gust Carlson in October of 1926, in North Dakota. The couple farmed in the North Dakota, then in the 1930's, they moved to the Oakland, NE, area and continued to farm. Later the family moved to Omaha. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust, in 1994; and a brother Harold Gould. Survivors include a daughter, Maxine and husband Bill McGillen of Woodbine; a son, Archie Carlson of Omaha; three sisters, Florence Kittelson of Minneapolis, MN; Emma and husband Norman Petefish of Spokane, WA; and Ida Schwartz of Costa Mesa, CA; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends."
