After eight weeks of anxious waiting, word was received in Hudson last weekn from Sgt. Alphonse Staberg, USA, telling that he had arrived safely "somewhere in India". His letter, which was written in India on May 29, was seven weeks in transit. He stated that he was well, and enjoying his sojourn in Asia. Sgt. Staberg, who has been in the service for 13 months, is the son of Joe Staberg of Hudson. Previous to his foreign service, Sgt. Staberg was stationed at Mitchell Field, Long Island, New Jersey.

Alphonse was employed at the St. Paul Pioneer Press for many years and later as a maintenance supervisorat Witte Transportation.
