MR. AND MRS. ELMER SANGSLAND
Elmer was born at Hettinger, North Dakota, and received his education in the local school. He graduated from high school with the class of 1935. His favorite sport was football and he played for four years.
Dora Jordanger came to Hettinger from Webster, South Dakota, and with Reva Carroll, owned and operated a beauty shop, known as the Vanity Beauty Shop.
Elmer and Dora were married in April, 1940. Elmer was in the naval service of the armed forces. After his discharge in 1945, they chose Sacramento, California, as their home. Here Elmer barbered for 30 years and Dora worked at her chosen profession until 1955 when she accepted a position with the Department of Motor Vehicles.
They have two children, Judy, a registered nurse and Michael, who manages Skyline Mobile Homes in Woodland. Both are married. Judy has her home in Sacramento and Michael lives in Orange Vale, California. He has one child, a boy.

ELMER W. SANGSLAND
Funeral services for Elmer William Sangsland were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sacramento CA, Tuesday, May 10, 1983 with Pastor Reverend Philip W. Bergetresser, the Reverand Gary B. Hopendahl and Reverend Carlos D. Schneider officiating.
He was an usher at St. John's Lutheran Church for many years and as a tribute to Elmer, the white carnation the ushers wore on Sunday was placed on his coat lapel at burial.
Elmer William Sangsland was born June 27, 1916 at Hettinger, ND, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sangsland.
He was batpized and confirmed at the Hettinger Lutheran Church.
He received his grade school and high school education in Hettinger and graduated in the Class of 1935.
He was active in all sports, and especially enjoyed football and basketball.
He was a mail carrier for Ellingson, SD, Star Route, southwest of Hettinger.
On April 12, 1940 he was united in marriage to Theodora Jordanger at Hettinger.
He joined the Navy in World War II.
Following the war they moved to Sacramento, CA.
To this union two children were born, Judith Walters and Michael Sangsland, both of Sacremento.
Elmer and Dora Sangsland lived at 2105 Yorkshire Drive, Sacramento for over 30 years. He was the owner of the Palace Barber Shop on "J" Street, Sacramento for many years. He was also a member of the Master Barbers.
He passed away at American River Hospital, Sacramento, CA, as the result of complications of surgery, Saturday, May 7, 1983 at the age of 66 years.
He is survived by his wife, Theodora, one daughter, Judith Walters and her husband, Fred; and one son, Michael Sangsland, his wife, Debra and one grandson, Michael of Orangevale, CA.
He is also survived by four sisters, Sigrid Olson, Estella Cartwright and Neva Lemm, all of Sacramento, and Anna Skogen of Hettinger, and one brother, Edward Sangsland of Sacramento, and his wife Ruth, and ten nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were: Michael Sangsland, Fred Walters, Duwayne Lemm, Paul Cartwright, John Cartwright and Ivan Rupert.
Friends called Tuesday, May 10, 1983 at East Lawn Mortuary on Greenback Lane, Sacramento, to pay their respects. A large number of friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention, attended the funeral. The neighbors gave Elmer the greatest tribute with two large floral wreaths bearing the inscriptions "Our Beloved Neighbor."
Interment was at East Lawn Sierra Hills Cemeteru, Sacramento.
