ED. M. SKOGEN AND ANNA SANGSLAND WED
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sangsland was the scene of a very pretty wedding last Saturday afternoon when their daughter, Anna Clarissa, became the wife of Edwin Magnus Skogen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Skogen.
The home was prettily decorated for the occasion and an atmosphere of gladness greeted the guests as they entered at the front door where they were welcomed by the parents of the bride.
At the appointed hour Rev. Dordal signalled to the bridal party to take their places for the ceremony. In addressing the bride and groom Rev. Dordal became reminiscent, recalling especially his pleasant associations at confirmation and later in other church activities as concerning both of them, then with quiet solemnity he opened his book to the marriage service. The ring service was used and clearly and distinctly in a straightforward manner, looking squarely into the face of their pastor they exchanged marriage vows.
The bride was prettily gowned in one of the new shades of green georgette over tan baronette satin with a corsage bouquet, and was attended by Inda Skogen, cousin of the groom. Miss Skogen was also becomingly growned in green silk. The groom dressed in conventional black was attended by Albert Sangsland, brother of the bride. After the ceremony had been performed a social hour was enjoyed and then followed the sumptuous wedding dinner which was enjoyed by all.
The contracting parties are both well known in the community, having been brought up and educated in our midst. They are affectionately known by their friends as Edwin and Anna. They will reside at their new home on the groom's farm northeast of town.
Congratulations and well wishes are extended to them by their friends and the community.

EDWIN AND ANNA SKOGEN
Born in 1900 near Enderlin, North Dakota, Ed Skogen was the second child of Joe and Anna Skogen. When Ed was six years old, the family left Enderlin to homestead near Hettinger. They rode the train as far as Gladstone, North Dakota, then traveled in a wagon with all their belongings from Gladstone to the homestead site six miles north of Hettinger in Holt Township. Ed and his older brother, Henry, rode the 60 miles sitting in a rocking chair on top of the wagon, with his parents and sister Josene riding in the front seat. Their first home was a frame house with one side for the family and the other for livestock. They carried water from Buster Clark's spring three-fourths mile away. Early neighbors Ed remembers as a child, were P. J. Peterson, Tom Stevens, Livingston and Pendergus. Ed obtained his education at the Skogen School, later known as the Ellefson School. As a young man he enjoyed horseback riding, boxing, wrestling and hunting.
In the fall of 1922, Ed and two cousins drove 28 head of horses, to be sold, to Andover, South Dakota. With Ed and Jack Torgerson on horseback and Siewert Fuglesten driving the campwagon, the trip took two weeks. At Ipswich, South Dakota, Ed went to work farming for Ralph Grover. He was offered a permanent position there, but declined. He journeyed home alone on horseback in 1923, completing his round trip of five hundred miles. The next year he began farming near the Skogen homestead where he has farmed and ranched since. Ed's remaining brothers and sisters are Milton and Clifford, both of Hettinger, Lillian Seamands of Washingston, and Josene Barton of California.
Anna Sangsland, born in the fall of 1909 near Regent, North Dakota, was the fifth child of Nels and Bertina Sangsland. When she was one month old the family moved to Hettinger, where her father had taken the job as school custodian. They lived in the schoolhouse basement that winter, and moved into their home (which is now the home of Dr. Sahlstrom) the following spring. Because of a shortage of schools at that time, she attended first and second grades at the Congregational Church. Mrs. Culver was her teacher those years. The rest of her education was obtained at the Hettinger Public School. She attended the Lutheran Church and Sunday School and helped her father in the caretaking of the church. During these years she babysat often for the Tom Clement children. Anna's remaining brothers and sisters, Elmer, Eddie, Sigrid Olson, Estelle Cartwright and Neva Lemm, all reside in Sacramento, California.
In March of 1926, Ed and Anna were married. To this union seven children were born. Their first were twins, Donald and Dorlene. Donald died at 18 months and Dorlene at 32 years. Doris (Mrs. Evertt Hite) resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Donny lives near Johnstown, North Dakota. Della (Mrs. G. P. Quickstad) and Dale reside in Hettinger and Dorwin lives on the Skogen farm. Ed and Anna have 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In 1976 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all their children at home.
