CARL CONRAD SANGSLAND
Carl Conrad Sangsland was born October 14, 1907, the fourth child of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sangsland and died September 1, 1966 when only 59 years old. He was born at Hudson, Wisconsin and came with his parents to a homestead at Black Butte near Regent in 1908. In the fall of 1909 he moved with his parents to Hettinger, North Dakota.
He attended grade and high school in Hettinger and was confirmed at the Lutheran Church.
He most definitely was the life center at all parties, and was a kind and hardworking man. He was noted for racing his horses and won many awards. He was a substitute mail carrier for Route Two as well as his father, Nels Sangsland. He worked all his early life farming, digging graves and hoeing and caring for trees at the cemetery. He remained a bachelor and faithfully stayed and lived with his mother until her death.
He also, after 1935, moved to Sacramento and worked at McClenna Field federal employment until a few years before his death when he retired. He was buried in the Hettinger Cemetery.

CARL SANGSLAND TAKEN BY DEATH IN CALIFORNIA
Carl Kondrad Sangsland, almost 66, passed away at 3:30 a.m on Sat., Sept. 1, 1973, at the Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, Caif., from the effects of cancer after an illness of seven months.
Carl Sangslad was born Oct. 14, 1907, at Hudson, Wisc., the son of Nels and Bertina Sangsland. He was unmarried.
He attended school at Hettinger and lived here for many years. He was a farmer for many years and served as an assistant mail carrier here and at McClelland Air Base, Sacramento.
He was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church and of the Sons of Norway Lodge. He was known as a deeply religious person who helped others within how power and ability. He care for his mother many years before she ded and helped raise an orphan nephew, a son of his deceased brother.
He is survived by four sisters and two brothers; Sigrid Olson, Estella Cartwright, Neva Lemm, Elmer Sangsland, all of Sacramento, and Anna Skogen of Hettinger, ND.
Funeral services were held at the Hettinger Lutheran Church on Sept. 7 with Pastor William Jiran officiating. Ella Stedje was the organist and the songs, "Abide With Me" and "The Lord's Prayer" were sung.
Interment was made in the Hettinger Cemetery with the Walby Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Active casketbearers were Duwayne Lemm, John Cartwright, Paul Cartwright, Donald Sangsland, Michael Sangsland, Dorwin Skogen, Donny Skogen and Dale Skogen.
Included among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. (Estella Sangsland) Rex Cartwright of Sacramento, Calif.
