ALBERT SANGSLAND PASSES AWAY WEDNESDAY
Rural Mail Carrier for 17 Years Succumbs After Long Illness
In ill health for a number of years and seriously ill the past summer, Albert Sangsland, rural mail carrier on the Hettinger route 2 for the past 16 years, passed away at a St. Paul, Minn., hospital at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. His death was attributed to uremic poisoning. He was 34 years and six days old at the time of death.
Funeral rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Hettinger Lutheran church, with a large number of friends and neighbors present. The Rev. E. Leland Rude, pastor, conducted the services. A mixed quartette composed of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Quickstad, Miss Carolyne Anderson and the Rev. Mr. Rude, sang "Take M As I Am," a special request of the widow, "Beautiful Valley of Eden" and "Does Jesus Care."
Pallbearers were Ira T. Hall, Ira V. Martin, Louis Overby, Don DeLa and Ely Wright, Haynes, all former associates in the postoffice department, and Jonas Johnson. Interment was in the Hettinger cemetery.
Albert Selmer Sangsland was born Sept. 12, 1901, at Hudson, Wis., the sone of Nels and Bertina Sangsland. He spent his early years at Hudson and then came with his parents to Hettinger county, N.D., in the pioneer days. They came to Adams county in 1911 and have made their home in Hettinger since. Mr. Sangsland attended the Hettinger public schools prior to commencing work as a mail carrier.
His marriage to Miss Laura Sauter occurred May 12, 1931, at Lemmon, S.D. To this union one son, Donald Dean, aged one year, was born.
A member of the Lutheran church, he had taken an active part in church activities and was affiliated with the Lutheran Brotherhood and the Luther league. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge.
Surviving are his widow and son; his mother, Mrs. Bertina Sangsland, Hettinger; four sisters, Estella and Neva, at home, Mrs. Almer Olson and Mrs. Edwin Skogen, Hettinger; four brothers, Carl, Elmer and Edward, at home, and Norman, White Fish, Mont.

Albert Selmer Sangsland, first son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Sangsland, was born September 12, 1901 and died September 18, 1935 at 34 years.
His parents moved from Wisconsin and homesteaded by Black Butte, north of Regent, North Dakota, in 1908. In the fall of 1909 he moved, with his parents, to Hettinger. He attended grade school and high school there. He played most any of the instruments in the band as well as the organ and piano by ear. He was very musical and a good artist.
He was confirmed and married to Laura Sauter at the Lutheran Church. They had two sons, one is till living in California.
He was kind, sensible and the life of the party.
He was a mail carrier for Route Two until his death. As mail carrier he had many hard trips during the rough cold winters with bad roads. He used a cutter, pulled by horses, as the snow was so deep on the roads. It was impossible to there many days.
In the fall of the year he would go to a farmers and do custom threshing for most of the people that were on his mail route.
He was burried on his second son's first birthday, his wife died two years later. The stores all closed for his funeral. He is buried in the Hettinger Cemetery.
