MR. AND MRS. NORVAL LEMM
As one of the daughtes of Bertina and Nels Sangsland (Prairie Pioneers), I would like to add a few lines to our family history.
I was born in Hettinger, spent my childhood and school days there. After I graduated from high school, I worked at the high school library and Thomas Confectionary.
In 1936 I went to Auburn, California, to visit my sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and Rex Cartwright. I liked it there and decided to stay.
In February, 1937, I married Norval Lemm, a native of Redding, California. We have one son, Duwayne and daughter-in-law Earleen, two grandsons, Daryl and Keith. Our son is supervisor for the State Youth Authority and lives in Sacremento, California.
My husband and I lived in several small cities in California and in 1947 moved to Sacramento where we reside.
Norval was in the meat business for 40 years and I worked for the Motor Vehicle in Sacremento for 15 years.
In 1972 we retired so we could travel. We did get to Alaska and Canada before retiring. We like vacationing in Canada and have been back there several times. We have been to the East Coast three times, also took a tour of the New England states, they are beautiful. We have been back to Hettinger every summer since we retired to visit my relatives and friends. Hettinger has changed a great deal since I lived there, but I still love it.
I would like to add a few words about my brothers Albert, Norman and Carl, all deceased.
I am sure all old-timers remember Albert. He drove a mail route for many years, and was loved by everyone who knew him. He married Laura Saura of Hettinger (deceased). They had one son, Donald, and four grandchildren who live in Sacremento, California.
Norman joined the Marines when he was 18, and spent most of his life in California, he was also staioned in China and the Hawaiian Islands.
Carl also drove a mail route, did a little farming, and in 1942 moved to Sacremento, California. He worked at McClellan Air Force Base for a number of years before retiring. He passed away in 1973.
