EDWIN M. SKOGEN
Edwin M. Skogen, 79, of Hettinger, died at 3:10 a.m. Wed., Aug. 8, 1979 from a terminal illness that lasted several months.
He was born June 2, 1900 at Buttsville, ND, near Enderlin, to Joe and Anna Skogen. He came to Hettinger in 1906 to live on a homestead near Hettinger, and attended grade school. He was a farmer and rancher all his life on the same homestead.
On March 27, 1926, he was married at Hettinger to Anna Sangsland, who survives him.
He was a member of the Hettinger Lutheran Church. For a number of years he was a school board member in his district.
Surviving in his immediate family are two daughtes and three sons: Doris Hite of Cedar Rapids, IA, Della Quickstad, Dorwin Skogen, Dale Skogen, all of Hettinger, and Donny Skogen of Johnstown, ND; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A son and daughter preceded their father in death.
Also mourning his passing are two sisters and two brothers, Josene Barton of Aptos, CA, Lillian Seamands of Sequin, WA, Milton Skogen and Clifford Skogen, both of Hettinger, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on August 11 in the Hettinger Lutheran Church with Pastor Schlessmann officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smith were the vocalists and Mrs. Kurt Erdmann the organist.
Interment was made in the Hettinger Cemetery with the Walby chapel in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Jimmy Melling, Vern Carroll, Roger Moeller, Irvin Melling, Raymond Peterson, Gerhard Stenberg, all of Hettinger.
Relatives and friends from out of town at the services included: Mr. and Mrs. Norval Lemm of Sacramento, CA; Sherry Gaylord of Richmond, KY; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hite of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Mr. and Mrs. Don Skogen and Michael of Johnstown, ND.
