BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: Obituary of Lillian Haney, THE JORDAN TRIBUNE,
23Nov1947; 1947; Copy in possession of Nancy & Art Hawkinson.
"Garfield County-The Golden Years", the May and Alfred Haney Story, p239-240,
by May Haney, ca 1969.
Alfred came to the [Jordan] country in 1912 with his mother and
father, Frank B. and Lillian Haney. Mrs. Haney's mother and father came, too
(Jim Williams). They came in covered wagons and brought their stock from
Hyannis, Nebraska. They all settled on Snow Creek. Haney's was on the Big
Finger Jack's place, which they later sold to Frank McKeever. Doc and Baldy
Williams were among those to settle in the Snow Creek neighborhood.
Mrs. Haney's two sisters, Mrs. Jane Reed, Champion Cow-Girl and Wild West
rider of Wild Horses, lived at the forks of Snow Creek with her husband and
little girl. Aunt Nell [Rothermell], as we all knew her, lived with her father
and mother. She was married to Lou Nelson, later to Bill Searls, and is now
living in the hospital; her brother, Baldy, is also a patient there. Both are
close to 90 and over. Aunt Jane died three years ago [abt 1966].

OBITUARY, The Jordan Tribune, 23Nov1947
Lillian Haney Is Laid to Rest.
Mrs. Lillian Haney, pioneer resident of this
section, came to the end of life's journey Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. She
had been ill and bedridden for many months.
Final rites were held at the Community Presbyterian Church in Jordan
yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. The Rev. Dennis Finch, pastor of the Jordan
Gospel Mission conducted the service which was largely attended. Burial was in
Pioneer Cemetery beside the grave of her husband, Frank B. Haney, who died
November 19, 1942.
The late Mrs. Haney was born at Hyannis, Neb. Nov. 9. 1878. She and Mr.
Haney were married there in 1900 and 12 years later yielded to the lure of this
land of opportunity. Their mode of conveyance was in the primitive covered
wagon followed by a string of horses. Upon their arrival here they settled on
a homestead on the present site of the Frank McKeever farm and engaged in stock
ranching. Some years later they moved to a farm on Hell Creek.
Friends of Mrs. Haney recall that she was an excellent horsewoman, a
faithful helpmate of her husband, who also was a fine type of sturdy pioneers.
They were both life members of the Range Riders Union of Miles City.
Since her husband's death she has made her home in Jordan. She is survived
by two children, Alfred Haney of Jordan and Mrs. Warner Burchett of Brusett.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; three brothers,
John Williams of West Plains, Mo., William Williams and Cyrus Williams of
Jordan; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Reed and Mrs. Nellie Rothermel of Rapid City, SD.
