Mary Susan Hoyer Becomes the Bride of Donald Engstrom at Beautiful Home Ceremoney Performed Here Monday; Leave on Wedding Trip to Chicago
The home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hoyer at 1226 Third Street was the scene of a very beautiful wedding at high noon on Monday, August 25, when their daughter, Mary Susan, became the bride of Donald James Engstrom, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Engstrom of Hudson.
The ceremony was performed before an improvised alter in front of the fire place decorated with a background of green foliage and white gladioli. On the mantle were white tapers in crystal candle holders. The house was decorated in a color scheme of pink and white, using roses and gladioli as the floral decorations. The Rev. Leslie Skerry Olson, of St. Paul's Episcopal church, read the service. The only guests were those of the immediate families.
The bride, who was attended by her cousin, Miss Virginia P. Lyon of New York City, wore a gown of Chartreuse and wine print, and carried a lace handkerchief that had been worn by her mother at her marriage. Her only jewerly was a pearl clip and her accessories were in the shades of wine. She wore a corsage of pink and white roses. Miss Lyon, the bride's only attendant, was gowned in a navy blue and white print and wore navy accesories. She had a corsage of talisman roses. Mr. Raymond Engstrom was his brother's only attendant. The men of the wedding party wore boutonnieres of white roses.
Mrs. A. S. Hoyer, the mother of the bride, was attired in a gown of powder blue silk crepe and wore a gardenia corsage. The groom's mother, Mrs. John Engstrom, wore a dress of wine colored crepe trimmed with velvet. She also wore a gadenia.
Immediately following the ceremony a buffet luncheon was served to the guests at the bride's home. The table was decorated with pink and white flowers, and four lighted white tapers in silver candle holders were placed at the corners of the table.
For travel, the bride chose a light wine colored wool ensemble with a hat to match, silver fox furs and black accessories. The young couple left Monday afternoon on the "400" for a wedding trip to Chicago, where Mr. Engstrom will be employed.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Engstrom are graduates of Hudson High School. Mrs. Engstrom attended Milwaukee Downer College in Milwaukee, Wis., and Mr. Engstrom attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where he was associated with the Sigma Delta Society.
