Death
Mr. Wesley Reed Furr, 71, of 6723 Plantation Road, Frederick, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Edith Burrier Furr. Born July 24, 1926, at Marshall, Va., he was the son of the late Jackson and Katherine Virginia Haley Furr. Mr. Furr served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had been employed for more than 38 years, until the time of his illness, with Capitol Milk on East Patrick Street. He served as state commander of the State of Maryland AMVETS and organized the first Maryland State Auxiliary. Locally, he served as commander, secretary, treasurer and member of the board of directors of AMVETS Post Frederick, and Sad Sack Shack 101. He was also a member of Francis Scott Key, Post 11, American Legion. Duringh is early years, Mr. Furr was active with the local scouting program. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Wesley R. Furr Jr. of Keedysville, and Warren Lee Furr of Florida; five stepchildren, Jerry Wood and wife Tammy, Morris Wood, Mary Lee Willard and husband Charles, Carol Albright, and Judith Mills, all of Frederick; three granddaughters; nine step grandchildren; nine step great grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Jackson Lee Furr of New Midway, Harvey Furr and Alice Framin, both of Virginia, Howard Furr, Mabel Canard and Virginia Furr, all of Warrenton, Va., Daniel Furr and Georgia Dawson, both of Bealton, Va., and Charles Furr of Alamogordo, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Furr was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Furr; and two sisters, Ruth Slayton and Elizabeth Wines. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, in Etchison Memorial Chapel of the funeral home, with Pastor Linda R. Lambert, Thurmont Church of the Brethren, officiating.
