Death
Joseph Melvin Furr, Sr., age 87, of Vass, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. at Memory Lane Family Cemetery in Vass with Pastor John Brown officiating with Military Honors. Melvin was born in Moore County on July 9, 1933 to the late Joseph and Marvie Furr. He proudly served his county in the U.S. National Guard. He was a simple man who loved the Lord and his family. Melvin enjoyed farming and fishing. He was a humble man who put others before himself. He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda Furr; daughters, Sharon Kelly of Delco, NC, Gwen Leiato of Supply, NC, Darlene Stewart of Vass; step-children, Mylinda Brewster and Eugene Ray Brewster both of Vass; sister, Brenda Lienby; brothers, Joe Furr of Carthage and Bill Furr of Pinehurst; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his sons, Ronnie Furr and Joseph Melvin Furr, Jr.; sister, Magdalene Furr; brothers, James, J.W., Bobby and Ray.Endnotes
