Death
Marvie Boyd Furr, 90, of Vass died on Wednesday (Dec. 8, 2004) at Penick Village in Southern Pines. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Highland Baptist Church. Dr. William Vaughn and the Rev. Roland Reynolds are officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, Dec. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. Mrs. Furr was born in Montgomery County to the late James and Nancy Kelly Boyd. She worked for many years for Carter’s Cleaners and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Martin Furr, and sons, Ray J. Furr and Bobby M. Furr. Surviving are her sons, James G. Furr and J. Melvin Furr, both of Vass, James W. “J.W.” Furr of Ocala, Fla., and Thomas Furr of Southern Pines; daughters, Magdalene Furr of Aberdeen and Brenda Lisenby of Vass; brother, Pate Boyd of Greensboro; 30 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.
