Notes
Death
James Guthrie Furr Sr., 71, of Carthage, passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018. A celebration of his life will be held at the Highland Baptist Church, 5587 U.S. 1, on Friday at 12 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service starting at 11 a.m. A lifelong resident of Moore County, James was born in Vass to the late Joseph Martin and Marvie Jane Boyd Furr. He had served his country as a cook in the U.S. Navy. On Jan. 21,1967, he married Patricia Garner Furr, of Southern Pines. James grew up working on the family farm, so it was a natural transition for him to start a landscaping company. Originally called J&P Landscaping, he later changed it to Furr's Ground Maintenance. James is survived by his son, James G. Furr Jr., wife Torrie, and daughter Teresa Furr, wife Renae. He was the grandfather of Natalie, Elliott, Kaylee and Caleb Furr. He was the brother of Joseph Melvin Furr, Joe Furr, Thomas Furr and Brenda Lisenby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Garner Furr; and his siblings J.W., Bobby, Ray and Magdalene Furr. Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines.Endnotes
