Death
BALTIMORE, Md. — Mrs. Gertie Furr Mills of 3108 E. Baltimore Street died Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, following two years of declining health and one month of serious illness. She was a former resident of Kannapolis, having lived in Baltimore for the past 41 years. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Fourlane Baptist Church in Kannapolis where she held her membership. The Rev. Robert Feguson and the Rev. Alfred Absher will officiate, and interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The body will be placed in state at Lady's Funeral Home in Kannapolis at noon today. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight. Mrs. Mills was born in Cabarrus County, July 9, 1917, daughter of the late George Furr and Minnie Clontz Furr. Her husband, Boyd Henry Mills, died June 18, 1969. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Stephanie Neidig of Jacksonville; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Elwood and Mrs. Ruth Burnett, both of Kannapolis, and Mrs. Cordie Jarvis of Concord; a half-sister, Mrs. Frances Hicks of Kannapolis; two step-sisters, Mrs. Carl Tucker of Kannapolis and Mrs. Odell Sloop of China Grove; three step-brothers, J.B. Mills and G.T. Tucker, both of Kannapolis, and E.V. Mills of Concord; and one grandchild. The family will make headquarters at the home of Mrs. Elwood, 410 South East Avenue.Endnotes
