Death
ALBEMARLE — Mrs. Avie Melinda Furr Smith, 78, of Route 4, Albemarle, died this morning at Stanly County Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mearlin Cephus ‘‘Bud” Furr, and Dixie Burleson Furr. Born November 24, 1894 in Stanly County, she was a member of Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, and, was the wife of the late Adam Alexander Smith. Surviving are two sons, Roy Lee Smith of Stoneville, and Paul A Smith of Route 3, Albemarle; four daughters, Mrs Grady Huneycutt, Mrs Cara Huneycutt, and Mrs Norma Vanhoy, all of Route 4, Albemarle, and Mrs Bill Wiles of Concord; two brothers, Craven C. Furr of Oakboro, and Edward Furr of Route 3, Albemarle; two sisters, Mrs William Henry Poplin of Richfield, and Mrs Buck Parnell of Concord, 31 grandchildren, 72 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m, Sunday at Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Cliff Allen and Clarence Whitley and the Rev C.L Melntyre officiating. The body will remain at Hartsell Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm today.Endnotes
