Notes
Death
Mrs. Mary Ellen Furr Penninger, 82, affectionately known as "Pete", entered in to rest on October 21, 2016 at Carolinas Healthcare System-Pineville. A native of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Earl Bowman Furr and Ruth Lahance Moss Furr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Moore Penninger; by three brothers and two sisters. Pete was an Avon Consultant for more than 50 years. She loved the Atlanta Braves and loved to cook and bake. She was known for her homemade Pineapple Cake and her dressing. She was a great wife and mother who loved to make the holidays special. She gave from the heart and would help anyone in any way possible. She loved to go play Bingo with her daughter Rhonda and also loved traveling with her to the Cherokee Casinos. "Pete" was opinionated--she would tell you exactly what she thought regardless of whether you liked it or not. These traits endeared her to her family and friends. Among the simple pleasures of her life, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal, could be found. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Penninger of Charlotte and Rhonda P. Sadler (Edward) of Charlotte. Also surviving are fer McAlister of Charlotte and Amanda Sadler of Gastonia. Her great-grandchildren, Thomas Sadler (the apple of her eye) and Kennedy Sadler; a sister, Martha Foher grandchildren, Stephen Sadler of Albemarle, Richard Sadler of Charlotte, Jenniwler (Kenneth) of Harrisburg, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her. It would be inappropriate to leave out another beloved family member, Jennifer's Yorkie, Beefy. While she was not an 'animal person', she loved Beefy. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Service immediately following the visitation, beginning at 3:00 PM with the Rev. Earl Bradshaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Oasis Shriners, 604 Doug Mayes Pl, Charlotte, NC 28262. McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park is honored to be entrusted with the care of Mrs. Penninger and her family.Endnotes
