Death
Mr. Guy Banks (P-Nut) Furr, 70, resident of 1918 Greenstone Pl. died May 3rd, 2006 at High Point Regional Hospital. He had been in declining health for 5 and ½ years. Mr. Furr was born January 12th, 1936 in Guilford County, a son to the late John and Lilly Marley Furr. He was a loving and very generous man who loved NASCAR racing, his friends and his family. He was former owner of Oak Hollow Tavern, Green Street Tavern and Penny Profit Grocery. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge and Sons of the American Legion Post 87. He was married to the former Camilla Wright who preceded him in death in 2000. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Shawn and Zeke Cardwell; four brothers, Clint, Mack, Thurman and Ray Furr; and two sisters, Madaline Suggs and Edna Jensen. Surviving are two daughters, Shelia Cardwell and husband Anthony of Lexington and Sherri Furr of the home; one brother, Bobby Furr of Oak Island; two grandchildren, Melissa Cardwell of Lexington and Eli Cardwell of High Point; and his dog, Nikki. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with Rev. Janet Forrest officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cumby Funeral Service in Archdale and other times at the residence. Pallbearers will be Rick Wagner, Bill Marcrum, Dale Bennet, Vance Wilson and Jimmy Hardy. The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Sanders staff of the cancer center and Emerywood Hematology and Oncology as well as his friends at the American Legion Post 87 who stood beside him throughout his illness.
