Death
Mack Albert Furr, 76, of Galax died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was born April 20, 1921, in Gilford, N.C., to John and Lillie Bell Marley Furr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Irene Furr. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dennis Cruise of Dublin, Barbara and Curtis Jennings of Independence and Diane and Doug Hawks of Galax; a son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Furr of Galax; three brothers, Thurman Furr and Bobby Furr, both of Long Beach, N.C., and Guy Furr of High Point, N.C.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. A funeral was held Tuesday at Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church with burial at Crab Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Fred Jennings and the Rev. Sam Holder officiated. Military rites were conducted by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.The Gazette, Galax, Virginia, June 18, 1997
