Death

John Alvin Furr, Sr., 94, of route 6, Statesville, died Sunday, May 16, 1993, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Moore County June 30, 1908, and was a son of the late John Robert and Mary Jane McLeod Furr. He was a retired furniture worker, and a member of New Bethany Baptist Church. On Oct. 12, 1940, he was married to the former Edna Lois Elliott, who survives. Also surviving are one son, John Alvin Furr, Jr., of route 3, Statesville; two daughters, Mrs. Denise Estes of route 6, Statesville, and Mrs. Polly Moore of Greensboro; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Bethany Baptist Church, with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Woodrow Carico, Everette Neal, Dewey Lester, Herb Dinkens, Ralph Waugh, Parks Stewart, Robert Sigmon and Bob Mason. The family will assemble at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Estes on Island Ford Road, but will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.
