Death
Adam Paul Furr, 59, died Tuesday morning at his home in Concord. He was the father of a former Albemarle resident and the brother of five Stanly County citizens. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Herrin Grove Baptist Church, near Finger, of which he was a member. Rev. Mr. Curley, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. A. E. Staley, pastor of Kerr Street Baptist Church, Concord. Burial was made in the Carolina Memorial Park in Concord. Son of Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Furr, he was born February 11, 1898, in Stanly County. He had been a resident of Concord since 1918. In addition to his son, Jack H. “Butter” Furr of Greenville, S. C., a former resident of Albemarle who was a well-known American Legion baseball player while living here, Mr. Furr is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fannie Mae Harwood Furr of the home; a daughter, Miss Maxine Furr of the home; and two other sons, Everett and Leburn Furr, both of Concord. Also, he is survived by three brothers, Marshall, Levi and Luther Furr, all of Stanly County; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Plowman and Mrs. Onnie Ridenhour, both of Stanly County; and five grandchildren.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, February 8, 1957
