Death
Everett Eugene "Sam" Furr, 96, of Asheboro, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 3, at First Baptist Church in Asheboro, where he was a member, with the Rev. Mark Hall and the Rev. Ben Durand officiating. Burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord. Military honors will be provided by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. A native of Cabarrus County, Mr. Furr was born June 26, 1925, son of the late Adam Furr and Fannie Harwood Furr. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS McCracken. Mr. Furr was a former member of Kerr Memorial Baptist Church in Concord where he served as a Deacon and on various committees. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Concord and Asheboro. He received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and Jack Stickley Fellowship Award. In addition to his parents, Mr. Furr was preceded in death by his wife, Ariel Woodward Furr; sister, Maxine Barringer; and brothers, Jack Furr and Adam Furr. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Furr Harrell and husband, Edward, Denise Furr Durand and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Brian Harrell, Ben Durand and wife, Betsy, Erin Robertson and husband, Doug, Elizabeth Strider and husband, Toby; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Furr will lie in repose at the church, 30 minutes prior to the service.
