Notes
Death
Locust, Oct. 25. — Impressive funeral services for Mrs. Mary Starnes, who died on the 21st, were held the following morning from the Baptist church, conducted by her pastor, Rev. Bass. A number of appropriate songs were sung by the choir, among them a duet, “Open the Beautiful Gates,” by Mrs. R. W. Simpson, and Miss Elma Furr. The minister read from John’s words of comfort, Chapter 14, the text being taken from 19:22, relative to what each person is writing daily on life’s pages, and the writing is absolutely unalterable. The house was packed with hundreds of relatives and sympathetic friends. Nephews acted as pallbearers, and nieces composed principally the score or more of flower bearers. The deceased was a great lover of flowers and such an abundant array has not been seen in the church and over the mound. The casket was covered with a blanket of pink and white roses and dahlias. The deceased was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James A. Furr. She had been a faithful member of the Baptist church here since early girlhood. Burial was made in the church cemetery.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, October 29, 1929
