Notes
Death
Locust, March 23 – Early Thursday morning, March16, the death angel came to the home of Daniel Treece and relieved Mrs. Treece of her long suffering. Death was not at all unexpected. She was 74 years old. Prudence was the daughter of the late James and Linda Furr, an estimable Christian woman, and a member of Locust Baptist Church since girlhood. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the church at 4 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. W. Loy, assisted by Rev. J. H. Connell. The immense floral arrangements attested the esteem in which Mrs. Treece was held, with the usual stands and arrangements, with a large arch over the pulpit filled with sprays. Directing the flowerbearers were Miss Opal Burris and Mesdames Afton and Glenn Almond. Bill Beck sang two numbers—‘When They Ring Those Golden Bells” and “Beyond the Sunset” — and the church quartet sang “Going Down the Valley.” Pallbearers were nephews and included Harold Furr, Hughes Treece, Warren, Clyde, Loys and Jack Honeycutt. The honorary escort consisted of Lonzo Crayton, Ray Broadway, Jack Little, E. J. Honeycutt, P. E. Tucker, Roy Honeycutt, Fred Burris, Buford Hartsell, Harvey Kluttz, Glenn Almond and Otto Baucom. Survivors include the husband, Daniel A. Treece, six children, viz: Lee and Fred of Flint, Mich., Hoyle of Belmont, Ralph and J. C., Locust, and one daughter, Mrs. Madelle Tucker of Big Lick; nine grandchildren and two great- grandchildren; two brothers, A. J. and R. E. Furr, and two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Honeycutt, Locust, Mrs. Rose Treece of Kannapolis. Interment was in the church cemetery. Sympathy from the many friends is extended to the family.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, March 24, 1961
