Death
Richard Elam Furr, 75, veteran of World War I, and a native of Locust, passed away May 9 in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salisbury after years of declining health. Mr. Furr was born February 8, 1894, son of the late James A. and Prudence Teeter Furr. His wife, Mrs. Rettie Hatley Furr, preceded him in death in 1949. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn F. Almond of Locust, one son, Richard G. Furr of Charlotte, one grandson, Jeffrey Van Almond of Locust, one sister, Mrs. Rosa Furr Treece of Harrisburg, and one brother, Arthur J. Furr of Locust. Funeral services for Mr. Furr were conducted Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Locust at 3 p.m. by the Rev. E. W. Pate. Mr. Furr was a member of the Kinza Baptist Church. The body Jay in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Interment was in the Meadow Creek-Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were the grandson, Jeffrey Van Almond, and nephews, Harold G. Furr, J. C. Treece, Loys C. Honeycutt, Warren G. Huneycutt and Jack M. Huneycutt.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, May 16, 1969
