ALBEMARLE — Vernon Calvin Furr, 69, of Albemarle, died Saturday (March 5, 1994) at Mercy Hospital in Charlotte. Born Nov. 10, 1924, in Stanly County, he was the son of Levi and Liza Jane Poplin Furr. He was the owner and operator of the Ponderosa Fish House and was a member of South Albemarle Baptist Church. He served with the U.S Army in World War Il. Survivors include wife Eloise Poplin Furr of the home, son Gene Furr, Albemarle; daughter Shirley F. Winslow, Badin; brother Horace Furr, Albemarle; sisters Peggy Herrin, Oakboro; Mildred Cagle, New London; Evelyn Harris, Charlotte; Louise Mauldin, Albemarle; Mae Burleson, Albemarle; and seven grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at South Albemarle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. John D. Hoey and the Rev. Fred Hopkins. Burial will be in Stanly Garden of Memory with full military rites by the Stanly County DAV Drill Team. Visitation: 7-9 p.m. today at Stanly Funeral Home, where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the service.Military
