Death
ALBEMARLE -- Tommie Reid Furr. Mr. Furr, 81, of 1911-26 Midwood Drive, died Sunday, September 21, 2003 at his daughter's home. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 24th at Stanly Memorial Chapel, Rev. David Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening, Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stanly Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Rita Kohn, 418 North Fourth Street, Albemarle. Born July 7, 1922 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Marshall Filmore and Nora Dennis Furr. A member of Second Street Presbyterian Church, he was a former manager with Sealtest Dairy. He enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, trips to the beach, and following local high school sports. Survivors are his wife, Marguerite Walker Furr; son, Phil Furr of Charlotte; daughters, Rita Kohn of Albemarle and Mandy Herrin of New London; grandchildren, Eric Furr, Reid Kohn, Wendy Faulkner, Natalie Herrin, Whitney Herrin, and Marshall Herrin; and 3 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Oasis Temple, P.O. Box 560666, Charlotte, NC 28256. Stanly Funeral Home is in charge.The Charlotte Observer on 9/23/2003
