Death
ALBEMARLE — A. A. Furr, 76, of 230 North Fourth Street, well-known Albemarle businessman and former mayor, died this morning at 8:20 at the Stanly County Hospital He had been ill for about a week. Mr Furr was owner and president of the A. A Furr and Sons Auctioneer Company and part owner of the Charlotte Auto Auction Co., Inc. He was a charter member and served as first president of the Albemarle Board of Realtors. He served as mayor of Albemarle from 1951 until 1954. A member of First Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, he also was a past member of Stanly Lodge No. 348, a charter member of Albemarle Lodge No 703, a Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner and member of Oasis Temple in Charlotte and the Stanly County Shrine Club, and a past member of the Albemarle Rotary Club. He made his summer home in North Myrtle Beach, S. C. A native of Stanly, he was born July 18, 1893, to the late Marshall and Laura Jane Morton Furr. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church by Dr L Roy Lamb and the Rev Roger Tucker. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park. Graveside Masonic rites will be conducted by Albemarle Lodge No 703. The family will receive friends at the Lefler Funeral Home Friday night from 7 until 9 o'clock. Survivors include his wife, the former Lona Moss, three sons, Alma L, Bill M, and Ted P Furr, all of Albemarle, one daughter, Mrs Sam W Barrier of Albemarle, two brothers, Roy and Bryan Furr, both of Newton, two sisters, Mrs Barnes Bullock and Mrs Rella Bost of Albemarle, 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, four half-brothers. James Furr of Richfield, Claude Furr of Badin, Tommy and Crawford Furr, both of Albemarle, four half sisters, Mrs Olin Morris, Mrs Earl Howard, Mrs Thurlo Burleson, and Mrs 0 E Brown, all of Albemarle.Endnotes
