ALBEMARLE -- Alma Loyd Furr, age 83, died Sunday, June 23, 2002. Born June 21, 1919 in Stanly County, NC, the son of the late Lona Moss Furr and Alva Alma Furr. He was married to the late Louise Edith Tate Furr. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps WWII, serving in the Italian Theatre. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with The Rev. Harold McDonald and The Rev. Charles Royal officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle, NC. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. Mr. Furr was a retired Realtor and Auctioneer with AA Furr and Sons. He was a charter member and life member of Masonic Lodge 703, a veteran of WWII serving in the 515th Air Service Group-Italian Theatre. Following in the footsteps of his father, the late AA Furr, who served two terms as Mayor of Albemarle, Mr. Furr had an interest in the political scene. He was an active member of the Democratic party. He was a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors are son and wife, Anthony L. and Dianne Furr of Winston-Salem, NC; daughter and husband, Peggy Furr and Dr. Robert W. Wilson of Salisbury, NC; brother, Ted P. Furr of Albemarle, NC; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 202 North Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, American Cancer Society, 500 East Morehead Street, Suite 211, Charlotte, NC 28202. The family will meet at his home, 620 Cannon Ave., Albemarle, NC. Attending members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12 will be in attendance as flag folders. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is in charge of arrangements.Military
