Death
Bill Moss Furr, 75, of 230 N. Fourth St., Albemarle, died at 6:29 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at his home. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Harold McDonald will officiate and burial will be in Stanly Gardens of Memory with masonic rites by Lodge 703 AF&AM. Born Nov. 28, 1921, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Alva Alma and Lona Moss Furr and was a realtor and auctioneer for A.A. Furr and Sons Auction Company. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a petty officer. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, a member of Masonic Lodge 703 AF&AM and the former president of B Moss Storage and The Pet Shop. He was president and founder of the Stanly County Saddle Club, first president and charter member of the Albemarle Jaycees and a member of the Stanly County Sports Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Lowder Furr of the home; three sons, Johnny Furr and Rip Furr, both of Lake Norman, and Duke Furr of Albemarle; a daughter, Barbara Morton of Albemarle; two brothers, Alma Furr and Ted Furr, both of Albemarle; and four grandchildren. A sister, Foy Furr Barrier, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends From 7 until 9 this evening at Hartsell Funeral Home.Stanly News and Press, Albemarle, North Carolina, June 19, 1997
