Lexington Leader, Lexington, Kentucky, Wednesday, July 20, 1966, Page 19, Col. 6: Berea---Mrs. Ellen Hays Mitchell, 88, died at her residence, 221 Jackson street, at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday following a long illness. She was born in Jackson County and had lived most of her life in Berea. She was a former teacher and a member of the Union Church of Berea. She was a charter member of the Berea Laurel Ridges Chapter of the DAR and a charter member of the Berea Progress Club. She was the first secretary of the Berea Red Cross Chapter. Survivors include a brother, Herbert H. Hays, Berea; a sister, Mrs. Bess Odell, Rochester, N. Y., several nieces and nephews. Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Wray Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery.
