Riverside Independent Enterprise, Riverside, California, Thursday, May 9, 1918, Page 8, Last Rites Said For Old Citizen. Walter S. Clayson, Sr., Laid to Rest; Many Beautiful Floral Offerings. Corona, May 8.--Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock occurred the funeral of Walter S. Clayson, Sr., at 903 Main street. Rev. S. S. Sampson of the Methodist church had charge of the service at the house while the Masonic order of which the deceased was a member took charge of the service at the grave. Following the very comforting talk which Rev. Sampson made at the home, Mrs. George E. Snidecor and Mrs. Charles F. Hildreth sang a duet, "One Sweetly, Solemn Thought." The flowers were beautiful and spoke eloquently of the tenderness in which the memory of the departed was held. Quite unusual with such services was the fact that three sons and three son-in-laws acted as pall bearers; the sons, Marshall, Frank and Walter S. Clayson, Jr., while the sons-in-law were T. A. Fraser and Mason Terpening of Corona, and Earl MacDoanld of Riverside. A large number of the Masonic order attended the funeral in a body. The service at the grave was one of dignity. Fred E. Snidecor acted as spokesman for the order, the regular ritual in such cases being used. The deceased came to Corona in 1900 from Redwood Falls, Minnesota, and in the early days here he will be remembered as the furniture dealer of Corona. Nearly 10 years ago he retired from active business life of the city and for the past four or five years his feeble health has made it necessary for him to keep very close to his home and thus favor his declining years.
