John GORDON

John farmed in Sheepwalk, Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon in the 1870s and 1880s. By the time of the 1911 census, however, despite the fact that John and his wife, Mary, had a large family, it appears there were no more Gordons left in Sheepwalk as no returns could be located for anyone with the surname of Gordon. The ruins of the family home in Sheepwalk, which was sizeable, can still be seen today.

John died of pneumonia aged 57. The Irish Calendar of Wills and Administrations, 1858-1920 tells us he left to his wife, Mary, an estate valued at £3,181 16s.
