Ellen (Helen) GORDON

(24 Jun 1879 - 10 May 1962)

Helen, who was Annie's twin, was educated at Loreto Abbey, Rathfarnham, Dublin where she was a boarder. She and Annie both became nurses.

Helen and her husband, James, lived with their family in Corballis House, Cloghran, Co. Dublin, a 17th-century building of architectural significance. Around 1950 the house and 80-acre farm were compulsarily purchased by the state as part of its scheme to expand Dublin airport. The house was used for the airport's administration functions until it was demolished in October 2007 to make way for he airport's second terminal. After leaving Corballis House, Helen moved to Clontarf where she lived for the rest of her life. She was very involved in helping to educate African boys for the priesthood, providing financial help towards their studies.

Helen died at the Bon Secours Hospital in Glasnevin, Dublin.
