Individual Details

Patrick (Pat) GORDON

(PROBABLY 1800S - 9 Jun 1882)

Unless he was a twin, the year of Pat's birth provided by the family (i.e. 1817) does not fit in with the date of baptism of his sister, Bridget (12 July 1817), as provided by the Co. Roscommon Heritage and Genealogy Company. Nor does it tie in with the births of his children as it is unlikely that he was in his late teens when he had his first children. It is more likely, therefore, that he was born perhaps five to 10 years earlier.

Pat owned 761 acres of farmland in Currentorpane, a sizeable property. According to the Irish Calendar of Wills and Administrations, 1858-1920, Pat, who died in 1882, left an estate worth £1,221 12s 8d. No beneficiary is mentioned.

In 1858, at the time of the Griffith Valuation, Pat and his family were living in a house behind their future house, built around 1865. A new granary was also built around this time. The house, still in existence, was named Silverdale.
