Census
William was a student in the 1860 census in the household of John Rolland.Property
William and Clarissa Rowland transferred their farm of 112 acres to their son, William S. Rowland, for $1 and the following consideration on 19 October 1865. He was to support them for the remainder of their lives and was to pay his brothers (Jacob and Martin L.) $40 each after their parents' deaths and was to pay his sisters (Anna M., Elizabeth, Mary E., Amanda, and Rebecca) $60 each after their parents' deaths.Property
William S. Rowland leased his farm for the oil, petroleum, and gas on it. He was to receive 1/8 of the oil or petroleum produced. If gas was found, he was to receive $100 per year and free gas for household use for the dwelling house on the property. No wells were to be drilled on the 14 acres surrounding the buildings. If no wells were drilled within one year, he was to receive a yearly rental fee of $23. The original agreement was for five years and was extended on 18 February 1898 for another year under the original terms or as long as oil or gas was produced or the carrying rent was paid.Endnotes
