Isaac W. ROWLAND

(28 Aug 1837 - 24 Aug 1907)

Although the Indiana County Histories by Stewart and Arms and White state he was married to Mary French, this may be incorrect since he married Mary E. Collier (Manes) on 23 February 1871 in Missouri after his first wife, Susan Neville, died there on 14 August 1870. Isaac W. Rowland has a biography in An Illustrated History of the State of Washington by Rev. H. K. Hines that is available on Google Books. This information is available in it and is supported by Mary's death certificate and that of her son Edwin L. Rowland as well as the various censuses. When Isaac registered for the draft in South Mahoning Township, Indiana County in 1863, he was listed as married rather than single. Is it possible he was married to Mary French at that time? He could not be located in the 1860 census.
