John Davis ROWLAND

John D. Rowland held many occupations during his lifetime including stock dealer, carpenter, hotel keeper, and meat cutter. He was living in South Mahoning Township in 1886 when he and his wife released her interest in her father's property to her brother, William McMillen. He was living as a boarder in Wilkinsburg during the 1900 census where he was a stock dealer. He is listed as a carpenter in Wilkinsburg in the 1903 Pittsburgh City Directory. His daughter Maude was married in 1905 in Wilkinsburg. He bought property in Marion Center in 1908 and a hotel in Marion Center in 1910. He is listed as a hotel keeper in Marion Center in the 1910 census. He sold the Mahoning House property in Marion Center in February, 1914 to Robert McMillen, his brother-in-law. He purchased a farm in South Mahoning Township from his brother-in-law, Robert McMillen in February 1914. He was living in Punxsutawney in February, 1917 when his son enlisted in the National Guard and in 1918 when his wife died. He was listed as a meat cutter in Punxsutawney in the 1920 census. He later moved to Indiana where he died in 1929. According to his granddaughter, Peggy Lou (Rowland) Wolfe, he lived with his son Harry and his family prior to his death.
