Birth
This birthdate is considered primary since it is the one given on a form completed by his father, William S. Rowland, on March 22, 1915. This form is among the papers in William S. Rowland's Civil War pension file. Ferdinand Artz, his stepson, as the informant on Emery's death certificate gave his birthdate as 25 January 1862. The information given by his father is considered more reliable than that provided by his stepson.Death
