LIFE
A. Conflict: Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 327 indicates birth day as December 30, 1830.
B. He was adopted by Nahienaena and raised by Hoapili and Kaheiheimalie in Lahaina (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 304,348; Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 90).
C. He was educated in the Royal School from 1839 to 1849 (Alexander, A Brief Sketch of the Life of Kamehameha V, p 10).
D. "This prince succeeded to the throne of Hawaii under the style and title of King Kamehameha V on 30 November 1863. He lived for many years with the Chiefess Kamaipuupaa, but no children were born. He never married." (Descendants of Prince Keeaumoku I, Hms G65, Chart 8-A-2).
Conflict: He had no children (Pukui, Hawaiian Genealogies, p 106).
E. In 1864, "the king promulgated a new constitution upon his own authority, which continued in force for twenty-three years...The useless office of kuhina nui or vice-king was abolished" (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 289).
F. He died of "dropsy on the chest" while considering who to name as successor (Liliuokalani, Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen, p 35). "With him ended the line of the Kamehamehas. Unfortunately, no successor had been appointed to the throne" (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 297).
