Hawaiian Alii Genealogy Tree
This family tree integrates the pedigrees of the alii that are found in publicly-available sources - primarily the Bishop Museum, Hawaii State Archives, Hawaii public library, FamilySearch.org as well as the published works of Fornander, Kamakau, Malo, etc.
In its current form, the tree reaches back to 200 B.C. and has approximately 9,200 individuals with 61,000 citations to more than 175 information sources. Notes are included of these individuals and their families. In many cases, there is conflicting information in the published records; these are notated as Conflicts. This genealogy tree is a 8-year work-in-progress and will be updated as more sources are extracted.
The Alii Tree is free for your use - no fees, no passwords, no kapu. I hope that you will enjoy connecting with your ancestors of a rich heritage going back thousands of years.
I express deep gratitude to all those who endeavored to preserve the pedigrees and history of the alii - through verbal recitation for many generations, and then in written form since the 1800s. It goes without saying that without them, this work would not have been possible.
I admit that the interface of this Web-based genealogy tree is a bit clunky, but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for." The Name Index is designed for last names. However, the ancients did not have surnames so their names have been recorded in the tree as first (or given) names. To search for individuals without a last name, use the # symbol in the Name Index.
I welcome your feedback via email (see below) and acknowledge that there are likely mistakes, probably made in the wee hours of the morning. There are surely more duplicates that I have not yet discovered.
Enjoy!
